Coaching Workaholics |
You have visited this website because you may see yourself as a "workaholic". The term implies that you are addicted to your work that
is out of balance with the other parts of your life; rest, recreation, fun,
relationships, growth. For some, the nose-to-the-grindstone choice is what they really want. It fulfills their need to be busy and provides
them with more money, achievement, recognition, power, winning and other finish-line-based thrills. How long can they sustain their pace without
burnout is anybody's guess. We all handle non-stop stress, even positive stress, in different ways.
This article is for those whose work is getting in the way of living a fuller life. Many of our choices are driven by a 19th century concept
that hard work and struggle is a virtuous way of life. Starting with the year 2000, let's drop that BS idea and begin living life exactly the way
we want. I believe that we can become the authors of our own lives, rather than playing the roles assigned to us by culture and family. I
believe that within all of us there is everything we need to have more of what we want, and less of what we don't want.
Knowing this and starting to move along a path of our choosing is easier than you think, if you are
willing to accept these two ideas:
1. You can accomplishment more by working less.
2. You can start to shift to a more fulfilling life style right now if you are willing to ask for the help of others.
Hiring a coach is one way to start. As a professional Personal Transition Coach, I work with people to close the gap between where they are and
where they want to be. Balance is a big issue for a lot of people these days. My first request to the "get me a life" clients is a big one,
but it works. I ask them to set aside one hour a day for nothing but fun. The ones that follow through on the request discover, and you will too if you
make this daily adjustment in your schedule, is that the hour of fun (whatever that is for you) does not reduce their productivity. In fact,
the break gives them considerably higher energy levels to be at their best.
Yes, you can get more done by doing less. Two rules:
1. The break occurs during your normal working hours.
2. You do it every working day for four weeks straight to establish the habit. Are you willing to
take that first step.
Of course the coaching relationship is broader than offering you one or two cool ideas. Coaches are trained to help you discover those special
qualities and unique talents that you have, how to access them, and start focusing on how to convert them to tangible values for you; more money,
relationships, creativity, deeper fulfillment, and the time to enjoy.
Give me a call and let's have a free 20 minute consultation.
If not now, when? If not you, who?
